The Gottman Method

The Gottman Method is an evidence-based therapy approach for couples. It is a framework that was developed by a couple (Dr John Gottman and Dr Julie Gottman), for couples, based on years of research of real couple’s relationships.

During Gottman Method relationship therapy, you will:

  • Participate in a structured assessment which includes joint and individual sessions as well completion of individual questionnaires, giving you and your therapist a comprehensive picture of your relationship from which to start.
  • Explore the concept of The Sound Relationship House and how to build the various elements that contribute to a strong, healthy relationship.
  • Learn how to improve unhelpful conflict patterns and move toward positive regard and shared meaning.

The Gottman Method incorporates research and practical skills to help couples learn about each other’s inner worlds, build trust and commitment, and heal past hurts.
