Group Therapy for Anxiety and Stress Management

Anxiety Solutions CBT Psychology Practice runs groups to assist:

  • Individuals who are suffering from anxiety to manage their symptoms.
  • Individuals who need to learn practical tools to manage daily stress.
  • Individuals wishing to develop resilience which will enable them to cope with everyday hassles and prevent burn out and development of anxiety symptoms.

These groups are based on Renee Mill’s treatment method which has been utilised clinically for over thirty years.

What skills will you learn?

  • You will learn new and helpful thoughts which will assist you to respond to events in a realistic and calm manner.
  • You will learn to incorporate helpful behaviours into your daily life that will assist you to manage your anxiety and stress.
  • You will learn a 4-step process to utilise whenever you feel anxious.

What is the commitment?

  • Your commitment is to attend 10 group sessions. If you miss one or two you will still benefit.
  • We strongly encourage you to complete the 5-minute check-in activity.
  • The check-in activity consists of filling in a daily diary and an anxiety and stress management worksheet, ideally not less than 3-5 days per week in your 90 day transformation journey.
  • You are required to pay for the whole course even if you miss a session or drop out.

Why your commitment is so important?

As we all know “change doesn’t happen overnight”, same with your brain “rewiring” process.

  • To keep your new helpful thoughts wired and maximise the outcome.
  • To continue managing and/or reduce your anxiety and stress levels.
  • To easily utilise the tools to help with the difficult moments.

Practice and repetition is the key! By taking notice of the changes you experience, you will feel motivated to keep using the tools you have learnt through the course.

Who is eligible?

Any person over the age of 15 who is looking to develop skills to address symptoms of anxiety or stress or to build resilience.

What is the makeup of the group?

The group will consist of 3 – 5 individuals. The groups will be kept small so every participant will receive enough attention and will have enough time to contribute and learn. We will attempt to match age groups accordingly.

What are the benefits of doing the course?

  • Many people are looking for techniques to manage their anxiety and find that counselling or individual therapy does not meet this need adequately. This course provides an opportunity to learn a skill set that is practical, focused and applied in a consistent manner than ensures change.
  • Group therapy has the benefit of meeting other people going through the same thing and feeling less alone.
  • Group therapy provides the opportunity to learn from other people’s examples.

What should I do about the therapy I am doing now?

You may continue with your current therapist in exactly the same way, but you should let them know you are doing the course. Moreover, if you take medication do not change anything. The group is not meant to replace what you are doing currently. Rather, it is a practical add-on to your learning.

If I join the group, will I not require individual counselling?

Some people find that learning the skills in the group setting is all they need to function well. Others need a variety of therapies to assist including individual counselling, medication, mindfulness groups and so on. It will all depend on your individual situation.

Does the group require sharing of intimate information?

Absolutely not.

  • The group focuses on learning strategies and then sharing an example where you work through a 4-step process.
  • The examples brought must be everyday, trivial examples and the group leader ensures that the group is a safe space.
  • It is not a support group. Participants are not expected to supply emotional support to one another.

How long does the course run for?

10 weeks including an intake call, 10 group sessions and a closure session.

What is my investment?

$600 (to be paid in full upfront) which includes:

  • $60 per session for 10 group sessions.
  • 15-minute intake call with the therapist
  • 30-minute closure session with the therapist
  • Training manual
  • Tools

Is the group face to face?

The CBT training for anxiety management works well on zoom. Wherever you are, you can benefit from our training.

Groups are made available when we get 3 or more committed participants.
