Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a relaxed, meditative state that allows you to access and communicate with the deeper subconscious part of your mind where unconscious habits and patterns are stored.

What is Hypnotherapy and how can it benefit me?

  • Hypnotherapy is when hypnosis is used therapeutically to achieve a specific goal for a client.
  • We all have a conscious mind and a subconscious mind. The conscious mind is what you are aware of in the here and now. The subconscious mind is everything else – it’s the powerhouse of our existence. A lot of the problems we endure are not readily obvious to our ordinary consciousness because they have been relegated to subconscious processing.
  • At its most basic level, hypnotherapy enables you to train your subconscious mind to want and understand the same things as your conscious mind.
  • Once your conscious desires become aligned with your subconscious desires, rapid change takes place.
  • During hypnosis we gain access to your subconscious mind so that you can rewrite negative, limiting beliefs and thought patterns. We can also change the programming from memories and experiences which cause anxiety.
  • In our sessions, we can embed the tools and strategies you are learning from your psychologist into your subconscious mind so that they will not merely sit in your conscious mind. You will find yourself implementing those strategies more quickly and with less effort.
  • Hypnosis allows you to connect to your inner resources which will help you to make lasting positive changes to allow you to live a happy, calm life.
  • Hypnosis works on mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels. It gets to the root core of an issue facilitating healing, letting go and creating new habits of calm and relaxation.

Is hypnosis safe?

Hypnosis is an extremely safe, gentle, natural, relaxing, and enjoyable experience. You are in control the whole time.  You will not be made to do anything you are uncomfortable with, and you can stop at any time during a session.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Yes. Everyone can be hypnotised if they allow themselves to be guided through the process. No one can be hypnotised against their will.

Are the sessions face-to-face?

You can choose to have the sessions over zoom or face to face.

Are there evidence-based studies?

  • In 2018 a meta-analysis showed that hypnosis works best at reducing anxiety when combined with other psychological interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
  • In 2016 the PACFA research committee released a literature review. The goal of this literature review was to provide a contemporary review of research on the effectiveness of hypnotherapy. Ten studies were reviewed on the application of hypnotherapy to two common conditions: chronic pain and anxiety. The review found that the studies provided evidence for the effectiveness of hypnotherapy as a treatment to assist in the reduction of pain and anxiety.
  • Hammond (2010, p. 271) specifically reviewed the effectiveness of hypnosis in reducing anxiety and found there was a “tremendous volume” of research that proves that hypnosis is very effective in the treatment of state anxiety “associated with cancer, surgery, burns and a variety of medical/dental procedures” (Hammond, 2010, p. 271), including the reduction of anxiety “associated with a variety of surgical, medical and dental procedures (e.g., incisional biopsy, venepuncture, having radiological and imaging procedures, dentistry or oral surgery)” (p. 269).
