  • Structured Clinical Interview for the DSM-5 (SCID-5). This is a structured interview using the Diagnostic Statistics Manual -5 as a guide to formulate diagnoses.
  • Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). This is an objective measure of adult personality. The measure assesses psychopathological syndromes and provides information relevant for clinical diagnosis. It can also be used for treatment planning.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Assessment

This is a diagnostic assessment to determine if an individual meets the criteria for autism spectrum disorder plus recommendations for interventions.

The assessment Includes:

  • Examination of previous reports, assessments, and referral letters. Examination of existing data and reports are essential to ensure that information is collected from more than one source. Prior to the assessment you will be asked to provide any relevant documentation that may assist in the diagnosis of the individual.
  • For a school going pupil, a teacher questionnaire will be given to their teacher for completion to provide further supporting information.
  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – 2 (ADOS-2). The ADOS-2 is a semi-structured and standardised observation tool which includes a number of play-based activities. These activities provide opportunities for a clinician to observe behaviours associated with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
  • Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R). This is a structured interview that can be used to diagnose autism and plan treatment and intervention. It explores background information; developmental milestones; skills associated with social interactions; behaviours; and interests associated with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Feedback session. A half hour feedback session is included to go over the findings of the assessment and provide some preliminary recommendations. This provides the client an opportunity to ask questions and develop an understanding of the results, diagnosis, and recommendations. Sometimes the feedback session can be given directly after the assessment. However, when results are unclear or complex, the feedback session will take place later.

Time: 4-hour assessment

30 minutes feedback

Time: 2 hours

Adaptive Behaviour Assessment

An adaptive behaviour assessment assesses daily living skills to identify required areas of support and measures the impact of disability on an individual’s life. Adaptive behaviour assessments are useful to further support diagnostic evidence for individuals with an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder and other neuropsychological disorders.

  • Background semi-structured interview. This comprises an interview with a psychologist to collect relevant information including family history, developmental and medical background, diagnoses, education, employment, living situation assessments, activities of daily living, interventions, social and formal supports.
  • World Health Organisation Disability Assessment Scale 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0). This is a general measure of disability that can be used across all conditions. It examines domains of cognition, mobility, self-care, getting along with others, life activities and community participation.
  • Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System – 3 (ABAS-3). This online questionnaire measures three broad domains of conceptual, social and practical daily living skills. These skills are everyday activities which are required for self-care, social interactions and to meet environmental demands. Scores of the individual are then compared to others of the same age.
  • Paediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory computer adaptive test (PEDI-CAT). This online questionnaire may be used as an alternative to the ABAS -3. It measures four domains of daily activities namely, , mobility, social, cognitive and responsibility. It is appropriate for individuals aged one month to 20 years and 11 months.
