Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of therapy that can be utilised alone or in combination with CBT.
The main objective of ACT is to be present to one’s emotions and thoughts without trying to push them away or change them. You learn to just be in the moment whatever the moment brings.
ACT will teach you how to:
- overcome painful thoughts and feelings by not fighting them
- develop compassion for yourself since you no longer make harsh judgments about your thoughts and feelings
- be flexible and adapt to the fast-changing world around you
The more you practice ACT between sessions, the more you will enjoy life and the more you will be able to switch off intrusive thoughts which are the cause of much of your anxiety.
ACT is all about embracing life and feeling everything it has to offer.
ACT can also be carried out in a few short sessions. It is called FACT, Fast ACT.
